Lists, colons and bullet points.

Look at this list:

  • seeds,
  • sieved compost
  • moist compost
  • a propagator
The list has been punctuated using a colon (:), bullet points (.), commas (,) and a full stop. The colon marks the start of the list, the bullet points draw attention to each item in the list, the commas separate items in a list, and the full
stop marks the end.

EXERCISES (Notebook)
1) Change the following sentence lists into bullet-pointed lists. Add colons, bullet points and full stops. Drop any words you don't need.
1) The garden shed contains tools, plant pots, compost, fertilizer, bulbs and
seeds.
2) The hanging basket included lobelia, fuschia, nasturtiums, ivy and geraniums.
3) For a trek on Dartmoor you will niee a map, compass, torch, emergency rations, whistle or mobile phone, waterproof clothing, jumper, gloves, a scarf and high factor sun-cream.
2) Make a list of the items you would pack for a weekend staying at a hotel with a swimming pool.
